When I took my first Uber ride from the airport, I learned that they don’t send the standard Uber vehicles for airport pickups, but rather the higher end and more costly vehicles (SUV’s). This makes sense because if people have lots of luggage it wouldn’t go over so well in a Prius.
I spoke with a Lyft mentor and he shared with me that Lyft does not even go to the airport for pickups due to the commercial requirements. You can however request a Lyft car to go to the airport.
I later learned a secret about how to get the entry level Uber car or a Lyft ride when leaving the airport. All you need to do is take a free airport shuttle to a local hotel. They usually don’t require any proof of a reservation at the room and as long as there are others on the shuttle, you won’t be taking advantage of the system.
Once at the hotel, you can request a basic Uber ride or a ride from Lyft. Of course, if you have lots of luggage, you should just stay at the airport and get the higher end Uber car that they send or you might be in for a rude awakening when that Prius pulls up 🙂
